Financing
There are several forms of payments and awards available to the client.
The type of financing available is dependent on the type of services
provided to the client by the attorney. The financing available is subject
to state law.
Lawsuit Financing a.k.a. Lawsuit funding or Settlement
Advance
Lawsuit funding a.k.a. Lawsuit Funding or Settlement Advance is a cash
advance from an attorney to a plaintiff based on the potential for a future
settlement.
Contingency Fees
A contingency fee is a fee paid to a lawyer only if the lawyer is
successful in the lawsuit or obtains a favorable out of court settlement.
Legal Billing
Legal billing is the act of tracking time and expenses, printing invoices,
and manage payments for a legal practice.
Structured Settlements
A structured settlement is a voluntary agreement between a plaintiff and
a defendant under which the injured victim, the plaintiff, receives
damages in the form of a stream of periodic payments from the
defendant.
The plaintiff is provided with payment stability from a steady, low-risk
source of money which is less prone to the risk of mismanagement or
depletion. The defendant is provided a means of expediting the
settlement process, that can help reduce litigation costs and immediate
costs.
According to the National Structured Settlement Trade Association, for
nearly 20 years, the federal government has recognized and
encouraged the use of structured settlements in personal injury cases.
Prepaid Legal Services
Prepaid legal service is sort of like health insurance for those who seek
legal advice. Pay a monthly premium and keep a lawyer available to you.
