Medical Malpractice
Medical malpractice consists of negligent conduct by a medical
professional that causes damage. It is difficult to determine
what types of situations fall under the category of medical
malpractice for which the injured party should pursue legal
action. Generally, an experienced lawyer can tell if a case is
worthwhile after the first meeting with a client.
Workers Compensation
Workers compensation laws were created to ensure that
employees who are injured on the job are provided with fixed
monetary awards. This eliminates the need for litagation and
creates an easier process for the employee. It also helps
control the financial risks for employers since many states limit
the amount an injured employee can recover from an employer.
Disability Insurance
In exchange for a premium, disability insurance allows
individuals to recoup a percentage of their working income
should he or she become incapacitated for a period of time.

Medicare & Medicaid
Medicare recipients who also have low incomes may qualify to
receive aid from Medicaid. For people who are eligible for full
Medicaid coverage, the Medicare health care coverage is
supplemented by services that are available under their State's
Medicaid program. For example, services may include nursing
facility care beyond the 100-day limit covered by Medicare,
prescription drugs, eyeglasses, and hearing aids. Medicare
pays for any services that are covered by Medicare before
Medicaid does, since Medicaid is always the payer as the last
option.
Medicaid is a program that pays for medical assistance for
certain individuals and families with low incomes and
resources. This program became law in 1965 and is jointly
funded by the Federal and State governments (including the
District of Columbia and the Territories) to assist States in
providing medical long-term care assistance to people who
meet certain eligibility criteria. Medicaid is the largest source of
funding for medical and health-related services for people with
limited income.
